Data Analyst

Responsibilities

• Transform data into information and insight that can be used to make informed business decisions.
• Set up and maintain automated business processes to support internal reporting of revenue and expenses, enabling in-depth analysis of financial profit and loss at the cost-center (department or organization) and/or academic program level.
• Create data warehouse reports, design interactive dashboards and visualizations, and produce and track key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Extract, cleanse, modify, and analyze large datasets to assist management in decision making.
• Automate month-end processes and reconciliations.
• Research, analyze, and identify sources of variances compared to projections and prior periods.
• Recommend correcting entries when needed to support the general ledger team.
• Work with the university’s Office of Institutional Research, Information Technology Services, and other areas to ensure financial data is accurate and consistent across university systems and reporting technologies.
• Determine root causes for problems of data integrity identified through the quality assurance process or by business report owners/users.
• Work closely with Information Technology Services to research, recommend, and implement new technologies for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
• Continuously maintain data governance standards and contribute ideas and suggestions to improve data systems and processes.
• Support the Business Office team during audits of the university’s financial statements by providing data and information.
• Maintain documentation and procedures for assigned area of work.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams or comparable software.
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI or Tableau (or comparable software) to create dashboards and dataflows.
• Ability to analyze code and calculations to find causes of errors and implement fixes.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to perform accurately when working with large datasets.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work independently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to work effectively as a part of a remote/hybrid team.
• Ability to document business processes.
• Ability to follow up to pursue needed information and solutions.
